The Stonex X300 laser scanner allows landslides to be monitored and can provide useful information regarding the characteristics rock mass fractures, the degree of stability of the walls, changes in mass volume, and movement measurements. 

At the time of the scan (or scans) “control points“ such as infrastructures or building roofs must be set in order to be used to compare subsequent scans. Once the point cloud has been obtained it is easy to analyse landslide mass and identify the materials of which it is composed. Depending on the specific case multiple scans may be performed at predetermined time intervals to assess the extent of the phenomenon and any discontinuity. Landslides occur along three axes, and after a second scan any displacement of the mass and each single point along the axes can be determined in a given period of time. 

The post-processing software supplied with the X300 allows critical points to be easily identified and the area of minimum and maximum displacement of the mass can be accurately determined.
All generated data is stored in a specific database and exported in different formats, allowing improvement or deterioration trends of the phenomenon to be monitored. It is ideal for professionals, civil protection, forest authorities, police and state authorities that require precise monitoring of landslides. The Stonex X300 workflow is very simple:

  • Scan 1 (post processing with Stonex Reconstructor and determination of current condition);
  • Scan 2,3,4,5 (post-processing with Stonex Reconstructor and analysis of displacements of individual points and areas);
  • Report on the degree of hazard and activation of specific interventions.
